Promotions Setup

Think of a promotion as a coupon that you create for a particular product or service, or a general coupon that can be used to receive a percentage of a discount on all purchases made by a customer. When creating a promotion, you can decide whether the promotion applies to a specific product or service, or it applies to any purchase of any product or service. You can also specify the discount amount as a fixed amount, or as a percentage of the sales amount. In addition, you can also specify the date on which the promotion will begin, and the last day of the promotion if applicable.

To create or manage a promotion, click the Promotions button under Settings.

To add a new promotion, click New Promotion. To modify/update a previously created promotion, click Select Promotion to find the promotion and select it. To delete a promotion, click Select Promotion to find it, select it, and then click the Delete Promotion button once the selected promotion is displayed.

The promotion number is any number you wish to assign to the promotion, it must be unique for each promotion.

The promotion name is the description of name of the promotion; for example, Promo10 (for a 10% discount promotion).

In order to limit the promotion to a specific product or service, click the Attach to Product button, and select the product/service this promotion will apply to.

If you want to make a promotion applicable to all products, and you have already limited the promotion to a particular product, simply click the Detach from Product button to disassociate it.

If you want the promotion to become effective on a particular date, enter the date inside the effective date field.

If you want the promotion to end on a particular date, enter the date inside the expiration date field.

Enter the discount amount inside the Discount Rate field, and check the Discount Rate is Percentage check box if the discount amount should be treated as a percentage, or leave it unchecked if the discount rate is a fixed discount amount. For example, if you want the promotion to be used by a customer to get 10% discount, enter 10 in the Discount Rate field, and then check the box "Discount Rate is Percentage". If, on the other hand, you want the promotion to give a customer $2.00 discount when the customer makes a purchase, then enter 2 in the Discount Rate field, and leave the box "Discount Rate is Percentage" unchecked.

Click Save to save the promotion.
